THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF YOUR LIFE
A classic post-war farce by John
Dighton, set in a school in the 1940s, that was in need of a
lively overture. My choice of style and musical instruments had to
reflect the kind of instruments school children might learn to
play in that period. At the same time, I did not want the band to
sound unrehearsed. Humour was the key.
You can almost imagine a twelve year
old boy having fun with the trombone, and pulling the hair of an
eleven year old girl who is struggling with that huge tuba.
